Beagle Racing - Quick Facts

  • When? : Sunday afternoons at 2.15pm - season starts 29th March and runs until October/November. (Other breeds can turn up any time after 12.15pm for a go at chasing the lure).
  • Where? : Inch Farm, Kincardine Bridge, FK10 4AA.
  • Who’s Welcome : All Beagles can race (they all go at their own pace). Other breeds are welcome to have a go at chasing the lure.
  • What’s the Cost? : It costs £2 per dog with a ceiling of £6 if you have lots of dogs (we do have one member with 9 beagles!). If you plan to come regularly there’s also an annual membership fee of £10 per family.
  • I’d like to talk to someone about joining: Contact Maggie Hendrie on 0123 683 0273.
  • I'm not sure my Beagle will come back if I let him off-lead: The race takes part in a fenced-in enclosure. One handler releases the dog at the start of the race and another catches the dog at the end. Don't worry if you're on your own - someone will be happy to help out. Just make sure you bring 2 leashes per dog!

                                                     More About Beagle Racing

We believe that Beagle Racing is unique to Scottish Beagle Club members. It all started a few years ago when Beagle and Whippet owners got to know each other at dog shows. One or two Beagles were invited along to have a go at chasing the lure at the Caledonian Thistle Pedigree Whippet Racing Club and things grew from there. The Beagles now have their own division and a number of trophy races throughout the year. The sport is attracting a lot of interest from South of the border - from Beagle and Whippet owners !

The club is very friendly and whilst there are only official races for Whippets and Beagles any breed of dog can come along to have a go at chasing the lure. Most weeks we have raffles and fun dog shows. It’s a great family day out. There is a snack bar and toilets as well as lots of great company.

The races are held on a short, straight & fenced track. The Beagles chase a lure (a bundle of brightly coloured tape pulled by a winch) over distances of between 100m and 170m. The focus of Beagle racing is FUN! For dogs and owners. To that end, racing is organised in such a way that everyone gets a chance to win. There are prizes and trophies a whole host of different categories of dog, as well as lots of handicap races to ensure that everyone gets a chance to be a superstar!
