Beagle Racing starts on the 4th of April with some new times and rules in place
* The Caledonian Thistle Pedigree Whippet Racing Club welcomes a new chairperson this season June Symmons, Maggie is Secretary, Jill is Treasurer and Graham is race manager.
* First beagle race of the day will be at 3pm, to enter your dog in that days racing you must be onsite and registered at 2.30pm (or text or ring myself or Craig and let us know you are on your way) if you are late and we dont hear from you, then your dog can still take part in solo fun runs.
* The plan this season is to run the Beagle racing independantly from the whippet racing although under their guidance.
* A £2 per dog, per day fee is payable.
* A £10 annual membership fee is payable if you intend to come regularly, this must be paid if you want your dog to enter trophy races as only club members dogs are eligible to enter.
* Flexi leads and training leads are totally banned from the race field so please ensure you have short leads with you each week.
* Kennel Club issue pedigree papers must also be shown for dogs wishing to race in trophy races, the Whippets already have to do this under club rules.
* Any questions please get in touch with myself by email or on
07921817708 or with Craig Paton Ccraigpaton@aol.com or 07709108227.
Hope to see you all next week for a good start to the 2010 season.

More About Beagle Racing
We believe that Beagle Racing is unique to Scottish Beagle Club members. It all started a few years ago when Beagle and Whippet owners got to know each other at dog shows. One or two Beagles were invited along to have a go at chasing the lure at the Caledonian Thistle Pedigree Whippet Racing Club and things grew from there. The Beagles now have their own division and a number of trophy races throughout the year. The sport is attracting a lot of interest from South of the border - from Beagle and Whippet owners !
The club is very friendly and whilst there are only official races for Whippets and Beagles any breed of dog can come along to have a go at chasing the lure. Most weeks we have raffles and fun dog shows. It’s a great family day out. There is a snack bar and toilets as well as lots of great company.
The races are held on a short, straight & fenced track. The Beagles chase a lure (a bundle of brightly coloured tape pulled by a winch) over distances of between 100m and 170m. The focus of Beagle racing is FUN! For dogs and owners. To that end, racing is organised in such a way that everyone gets a chance to win. There are prizes and trophies a whole host of different categories of dog, as well as lots of handicap races to ensure that everyone gets a chance to be a superstar!
